Perfect Blue is a psychological thriller directed by Satoshi Kon and released in 1997. The film follows Mima Kirigoe, a former J-pop idol who decides to pursue a career as an actress. As her career progresses and her image changes, Mima begins to experience anxiety, paranoia and delusions. To make matters worse, Mima begins to receive anonymous threats, and eventually discovers that a mysterious online stalker has been following her every move. In her quest to uncover the identity of her stalker, Mima unravels a web of lies and deceit, and ultimately discovers the shocking truth about her own identity. Perfect Blue is a gripping and suspenseful exploration of fame and identity, and is widely considered to be one of Satoshi Kon's greatest films.

Battle Royale is a 2000 Japanese action film adapted from the 1999 novel of the same name by Koushun Takami. Directed by Kinji Fukasaku, the film takes place in an alternate future in which the Japanese government randomly selects a group of 9th grade students to take part in a deadly game of survival. Forced to fight to the death with a variety of weapons, the students must battle it out on an isolated island until only one remains alive. The film follows protagonist Shuya Nanahara, a rebellious teenage boy who must find the strength within himself to survive and protect his friends in the midst of the chaos and violence. Through a combination of psychological character studies, intense action sequences, and social commentary, Battle Royale offers a gripping and thought-provoking exploration of the human will to survive.

Godzilla is a 1954 Japanese science fiction kaiju film directed by Ishirô Honda. The story follows a massive prehistoric sea monster dubbed Godzilla that attacks Tokyo, causing mass destruction and panic. A team of scientists, led by Doctor Daisuke Serizawa, work to find a way to stop the monster before it destroys the city. Their efforts are hampered by an ambitious government official, Yamane, who believes capturing the monster alive is the only way to save the city. With the help of the military and Serizawa's new weapon, the Oxygen Destroyer, the team comes together to save Tokyo. Godzilla eventually succumbs to the Oxygen Destroyer, but not before it leaves a lasting impression on the city and its inhabitants.
