The Handmaiden is a 2016 film directed by Park Chan-wook. It is a South Korean period thriller and is set in Korea during the Japanese occupation of the 1930s. The film follows a young pickpocket, Sook-hee, who is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress, Lady Hideko, in an attempt to help a con man, Count Fujiwara, marry her and swindle her out of her inheritance. As Sook-hee and Hideko develop a bond, a complex relationship of deceit and desire begins to unfold and secrets, betrayal and revenge come to light. Ultimately, the two women must team up to outwit their oppressors and protect each other from harm.

Train to Busan is a 2016 South Korean zombie horror film directed by Sang-ho Yeon. The film follows a group of passengers on a train from Seoul to Busan during a zombie apocalypse. Seok-woo, a divorced father, and his daughter, Soo-an, are among the passengers. As the zombie outbreak begins to spread, the passengers must fight for their lives against the growing horde of the undead. Along the way, Seok-woo and Soo-an meet other survivors, some of whom are more helpful than others. As the journey progresses and the situation becomes increasingly dire, Seok-woo must make difficult decisions in order to keep his daughter safe. Ultimately, the group is forced to confront a series of moral dilemmas in order to survive the zombie outbreak and make it to Busan alive.
