Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a 2004 romantic science-fiction comedy-drama film written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Michel Gondry. The film stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet as Joel Barish and Clementine Kruczynski and follows their relationship, as they decide to undergo a procedure to have each other erased from their memories. As their memories are erased, the two come to understand the importance of their relationship and attempt to preserve some of their memories before they are completely erased. As the procedure is done, the two explore their past together, the events that led to their break-up and the consequences of their decision. The film is notable for its non-linear plot structure and its use of flashbacks and brief fantasy sequences.

The Truman Show is a 1998 comedy-drama film directed by Peter Weir about a man named Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) who is unknowingly the star of a reality television show that has been broadcast around the world since his birth. Truman, who is unaware of his fame, lives a seemingly ordinary life in a town called Seahaven, surrounded by actors and props that are all part of a giant set built by a media mogul (Ed Harris). He begins to suspect something is wrong when strange occurrences begin to happen and his life is infiltrated by mysterious strangers. With help from his best friend (Noah Emmerich), Truman embarks on a journey of self-discovery and embarks on a quest to find the truth. Ultimately, he discovers that he is the star of the show and that his entire life has been a lie. With the realization of his reality, he comes to terms with his situation and escapes the set to start a new life.
