The two form a relationship which is frowned upon by the other parents in the neighborhood. The film also follows the struggles of a convicted sex offender (Jackie Earle Haley) who has recently moved into the area and is struggling to fit in with the other parents. Through these various storylines, the film examines the issues of parenting, infidelity, and the effects of gossip and judgment on individuals.
