Munich is a 2005 historical drama film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Tony Kushner and Eric Roth. The film follows a team of Mossad agents in the immediate aftermath of the 1972 Munich massacre of 11 Israeli Olympic team members by the Palestinian terrorist group Black September. The Mossad agents enter a covert mission to track down and assassinate the 11 members of Black September in retaliation for the attack. Throughout the movie, the agents are haunted by the moral implications of their mission and grapple with questions of the cost of revenge and justice. The film's screenplay was based on the book Vengeance, which was inspired by real events. Munich was nominated for five Academy Awards at the 78th Academy Awards.
