Jaws is a 1975 American horror-thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley's 1974 novel of the same name. The film stars Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton. Set on the fictional holiday resort of Amity Island, the plot focuses on a giant man-eating great white shark which terrorizes the townspeople and enlists the help of a police chief, marine biologist, and a grizzled fisherman in order to hunt it down. As the menace slowly threatens to destroy the island, the trio embark on a perilous mission to face the creature. The film is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made, and it was the first summer blockbuster. It won three Academy Awards and was the highest-grossing film of all time until the release of Star Wars in 1977. The film's success led to multiple sequels and inspired countless other films and television series.

The Abyss is a 1989 science fiction film directed by James Cameron. It follows a deep sea drilling crew that is sent to investigate an underwater incident and discovers an alien species with incredible powers of transformation. As the crew attempts to solve the mystery of the alien species, they must fight to survive the extreme pressure of the ocean depths. The film stars Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Michael Biehn. The Abyss won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and was nominated for several other awards. The film is considered a classic in the science fiction genre and is widely regarded as Cameron's best work.
