The Shining is a psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. It follows a family of three – Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and their young son Danny (Danny Lloyd) – who agree to look after an isolated hotel in the Rocky Mountains during its off-season. Jack takes the job as a means to repair his strained relationship with his family, but the supernatural forces inhabiting the hotel drive him to insanity. Danny, however, is blessed with a psychic “shining” ability that enables him to see the hotel’s horrific past. With its intense atmosphere and genuine scares, The Conjuring is considered to be one of the best horror films of the 21st century.

In the end, however, Beetlejuice is the one that finally finds the right amount of chaos to drive the family out of their home. Beetlejuice is a hilarious, dark comedy that showcases Tim Burton's unique vision.
