The Shining is a psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. It follows a family of three – Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and their young son Danny (Danny Lloyd) – who agree to look after an isolated hotel in the Rocky Mountains during its off-season. Jack takes the job as a means to repair his strained relationship with his family, but the supernatural forces inhabiting the hotel drive him to insanity. Danny, however, is blessed with a psychic “shining” ability that enables him to see the hotel’s horrific past. As Jack becomes increasingly unstable, Danny and Wendy find themselves in danger as they try to escape the hotel.

The Others is a supernatural thriller directed by Alejandro Amenábar. The family is isolated, and secrets haunt them. At the same time, strange events begin to occur, and soon Grace is convinced that their home is haunted. As the hauntings become increasingly persistent, Grace is forced to confront the secrets of her past in order to protect her family and uncover the truth behind the mysterious presence in her home.

The Conjuring is a supernatural horror film directed by James Wan, released in 2013. It tells the story of the Warrens, a family of paranormal investigators, who are called to help out a family living in a haunted farmhouse. The Warrens must confront the powerful and malicious entities that haunt the home in order to save the family from the supernatural forces. The family must also rely on their faith and courage to survive the terrifying experience. The film stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as the Warrens, and also features Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston as the family in peril. With its intense atmosphere and genuine scares, The Conjuring is considered to be one of the best horror films of the 21st century.

Beetlejuice is a 1988 American comedy fantasy film directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara. The plot follows the recently deceased couple, Adam and Barbara Maitland, as they try to scare away the new inhabitants of their former home. In their attempt to do so, they enlist the help of a devious bio-exorcist ghost named Beetlejuice. With Beetlejuice's help and the couple's own ingenuity, they attempt to outwit the new family. In the end, however, Beetlejuice is the one that finally finds the right amount of chaos to drive the family out of their home. Beetlejuice is a hilarious, dark comedy that showcases Tim Burton's unique vision.
